Jamaice Plain is a neighborhood located in the City of Boston. The neighborhood, home to over 36,000 people, contains the largest Latino business district in New England and the most green space per capita of any Boston neighborhood. Although 17% of households in 2000 were below of the poverty line, today Jamaica Plain is the third most expensive neighborhood in Boston.
The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation was founded in 1977 to work closely with neighborhood residents, organizations and businesses to plan and carry out community development projects that benefit low-income residents of Jamaica Plain. The group's mission is to revitalize Jamaica Plain as a healthy, diverse, and sustainable neighborhood through a comprehensive strategy of community empowerment, economic development, and affordable housing development.
