This data layer contains information about broadband accessibility in each Massachusetts municipality, collected by the John Adams Innovation Institute in June 2007. It contains the following fields: the primary cable provider, availability of multiple cable providers, fiber to the premises (FTTP), DSL, and WIFI. It also includes information about Internet access at the Town Hall. After collecting this information, the John Adams Innovation Institute assigned each community a category: unserved (no access), underserved (limited access), monopoly (one provider), duopoly (two providers), competitive (three or more providers). |

This set of data layers contains the public Electric, Gas, and Cable (television and perhaps other services) utility providers for each Massachusetts municipality as of May 2008. The source of data for Electric and Natural Gas was the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities as of April 23, 2008. The source of data for Cable utilities was the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Cable as of May 7, 2008. |

Such information is crucial for local government and agencies to design and evaluate programs aiming at improving the technology capacity in each city. |

This datalayer shows renewable energy initiatives funded by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s Renewable Energy Trust from 2001 through October 2007. Projects range from the installation of, to research on, the following technologies: advanced biomass power conversion, biodiesel cogeneration, fuel cell, geothermal, hydroelectric, landfill gas, photovoltaic, wind, and other (including hydrogen, storage and controls). This is a thematic data layer by municipality; location of the points are representative and do not necessarily impart an actual location. |

The Energy Star Building layer shows the location of Energy Star labeled buildings across the state. Energy STAR is the national mark of excellence in energy performance. The ENERGY STAR buildings indicate the buildings that save energy and money, while protecting the environment. The information of each building includes the building name, address, label year, and building type. |
